That said, taking this a little more literally than it’s intended, there is so much more required of our politicians these days that they don’t really have *time* to write their own presentations.
Of course, Vidal is absolutely spot on when he complains that they can’t read them… the thing is, of course, that they shouldn’t be READING them in the first place – they should be PRESENTING them!
Part of the problem (for me) stems from the way that presentations are read from scrolling idiot-boards: it’s really hard to make sure your presentation flows well, with the right pace and intonation etc, if you’re only able to read a few lines ahead.
