Boris Johnson – British Politician and Mayor of London

“My speaking style was criticised by no less an authority than Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was a low moment, my friends, to have my rhetorical skills denounced by a monosyllabic Austrian cyborg.”

    Dear John:

Puzzling comment about Arnold Schwarzenegger. Unless I am misunderstanding, the implication is that Mr. Schwarzenegger lacks speaking skills.

This comment took me back to a book I read quite a while ago by Carmine Gallo (10 secrets of World’s Greatest Business Communicator’s). The author thinks very highly of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a superb communicator and provides good analysis too.

Indeed he writes: “Schwarzenegger builds a stronger rapport with his audience than just about any person I’ve seen or interviewed. I covered his first 100 days for CBS in LA. I watched him dazzle virtually everyone … they melted in his presence.”

I’ve just put this book on my “read again” list.

Keep up your good work John & thank you again.

      Hi Rashid,

I don’t know the context of the comment, but I am fairly sure that Johnson meant it “tongue in cheek”. If you go on YouTube and search their names together, you will see Johnson and Schwarzenegger riding bikes, taking cable cars and doing different things together. I think Schwarzenegger has an incredible life story. I recommend his autobiography, “Total Recall”. Very interesting reading.

      Cheers!

      John
